Job Description and Duties:

General Accounting Duties:

Calculate, verify, and post financial data to maintain accounting and statistical records
Prepare daily journal entries necessary to complete financial statements and other reports
Assist with cash flow forecast maintenance
Bank and credit card statement reconciliation
Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and maintain working papers
Reconcile intercompany transactions, ensuring elimination across entities
Assist with preparation of annual audit information and supporting documents
Handle special projects, responsibilities and other duties as assigned by Financial Controller
Perform other duties as required

Financial Reporting Duties:

Prepare consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal procedures for corporate entities
Prepare and analyze working papers for corporate entities, ensuring that financial information provided is timely and relevant for effective decision making
Complete monthly and quarterly variance analysis to budget and prior periods
Prepare working papers and backup for external audit process
Responsible for commodity tax filing preparations, submissions, and reconciliations (GST/HST/PST)
Assist with CRA audits
Ensure that appropriate and adequate internal controls over financial reporting are in place and operating efficiently and effectively
Analyze accounting systems used to look for inaccuracies and potential improvements
Work with Senior Management Team and Department Leads to assess financial status and identify methods for cost-reduction and efficiency improvements
Understand and adhere to all financial and accounting regulations and legislation
Disclose or report financial activities to government authorities as necessary
Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
Minimum 3 years accounting experience, accounting designation (CPA) completed
Experience with reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies – bank, and all related general ledger accounts
Experience with journal preparation and general posting activity
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail
Strong knowledge of accounting principles with the ability to identify and recommend new approaches and processes as improvement opportunities arise, as well as receptive to adapting to organizational and process changes
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent analytical skills
Strong understanding of accounting processes with high attention to detail
Ability to communicate with a diverse group, both internal and external individuals, as required
